40 Years Old Tawny Port
Sensory features: Very intense nose; complex combination of tobacco and dried fruit. This port has excellent structure with a very concentrated palate. Notes of English fruit cake, fig and dried fruits, as well as a very long and lingering finish.
Port is a fortified wine made primary from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinto Cão (plus around 75 other indigenous grapes) that are hand-picked from the wineries Estate vineyards. Port wines are intended to be sweet, so fermentation is arrested half way through the process, before all the residual sugar has been fermented. Fermentation is halted through the addition of grape spirits, thus fortifying the wine. The wine is aged in 600 litre oak casks for years during which time the complex aromas and flavours become thoroughly integrated and the distinct hue develops.
Grape varieties: Mixture of Various Old Vine Varieties (Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Franca, Tinto Cão) The grapes come from Estate vineyards. The Vallado Old Tawny Ports are aged in very old 600 liter oak casks and other old oak vats.
Best served: A wine sipping port, also very tasty when served with dark chocolate or chocolate desserts.
