Sensory features : An 'old vines' blend. A warm, ripe and expressive nose, packed with a black fruit concentration, framed with a very appropriate seam of honeyed oak, and alongside there is a finely judged layer of savouriness. A fresh and appealing style on the palate, with meaty overtones to the dried cherry, red plum and smoke flavours. Very sweetly focused, the coffee bean and cassis fruit packed into the mid palate. Huge, impressive length with naturally concentrated super silky tannins.

Technical Notes

Grape varieties: More than 20 grape varieties (a field blend), including Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca and others, from vineyards older than 80 years, with an average production of 500g per vine-plant.

Vinification: The grapes from the old vineyards on the Estate (over 80 years old) were vinified in stainless steel, temperature controlled, remontage vats, holding up to 3,000 kilos of grapes. The chosen parcels of the 16 hectares of the old vineyards were vinified separately, the fermentation lasting an average of 8 to 20 days.

Ageing: The wines from the old vineyards were then stored in stainless steel tanks for the duration of the malolactic fermentation and were afterwards racked to 225 litres new French Allier Oak barriques for 20 months.
