Château de Fonbel is run by winemakers Alain Vauthier and his daughter Pauline Vauthier. This family has links to the prestigious Château Ausone, a 1er Grand Cru Classé in Saint-Emilion and Moulin Saint George and through their new project, they are using their experience, passion for quality and organic practices to produce delicious wines at affordable prices.
Château de Fonbel comes from vines with an average age of 20 years old, planted in sand and gravel soils on calcareous clay subsoil. They are cultivated using traditional agriculture with organic and biodynamic practices to maintain the natural balance of the terroir.
The Château de Fonbel grapes are manually harvested and taken to the winery where they ferment in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. The wine then ages in new French oak barrels for 10 months.
Having one of the largest plantations of the Carmenère variety in the AOC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, this wine is a very original coupage that leaves traditions behind and where the proportion of the Carmenère variety really stands out.
