The label says it all: this wine comes from the treacherous slopes of the very active Mount Etna volcano. While some of the most well-known Etna wines are the reds from the north slope of the caldera, the Nicolosi family has been a pioneer of the eastern slope and the ideal aspects it offers the Catarratto grape, which never gets preferred position in the north. White fruit and saline notes run all over the palate with a complex, fine finish.
Sensory Features:Wild and powerful in style, this white is sure to impress lovers of Italian white wines with its freshness and complexity. Seville oranges, peaches and apricots dominate the nose, followed by ripe fruit and hints of toasty oak and spice on the palate.
Grape Varieties: 90% Carricante & 10% Vespaiola.
Vinification: This splendid white is composed mainly of the native Carricante grape with a dash of other local Etna varieties. The fruit comes from the Milo vineyard in Contrada Villagrande, which is located at an altitude of 700 meters. Once in the winery, the fruit is fermented with wild yeasts in 500-liter oak barrels and then left to mature for 12 months in barrel and another year in bottle.
Best Served: With oysters, poached cod and frutti di mare
