Carricante shows the strong interactions with the terroir, that precise balance that creates extraordinary wines, combined with the expertise, the traditions of the people who in this area, over the centuries have cultivated and transformed the grapes into wines. The exceptional nature of the Contrada di Villagrande goblet is the combination of all these factors, elements that the French, who have always been better at communicating than we are, have called terroir. The interaction between variety, climate, soil, regulated by the work of man.
Sensory Features: Light straw yellow in colour, this wine is dry with a persistent mineral alongside floral aromas and white fruits; a fine mix of complexity with pronounced acidity. A sip of infinite complexity, smells like candied lemon, blond tobacco and flint. Remarkably fresh, fat and opulent, offering a great drinking pleasure.
Grape Varieties: 90% Carricante, 5% Vespaiola & 5% Catarratto
Vineyards: The vineyards owned by the Barone di Villagrande winery are located at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level, in the Milo area, on the southeastern slope of Etna. It is here that the Carricante and other native Etna grapes grow, with which this exceptional Etna Bianco DOC “Contrada Villagrande” is made.
Vinification: Vinified in steel, it matures for 12 months in 500-liter oak barrels and one year in the bottle. This is a great white, which can be drunk immediately but if left in the cellar is capable of defying time.
Best Served: With elaborate fish dishes, as well as poultry and soups rich in legumes.
