Few regions have a name that is as wine-influenced asValpolicella. If we break down this Etruscan name “vallis polis cellae”, the exact meaning would be “the valley of many cellars”. Formed by a series of north-south facing valleys in the Italian region ofVeneto, there are still vineyards growing in the way the Etruscans developed more than two thousand years ago. A historical legacy that wineries likeBrigaldarahave wanted to recover in order to remain among the best winemakers. Under the guidance of owner and winemakerStefano Cesari, they produce the most traditional and famous wine of the region with precision. AValpolicellathat starts life on their 50-hectare estate on the outskirts of the village of San Floriano, in the district ofValpolicella Classica(Veneto), and with a deep love for the land and for tradition, it has now become one of the great ambassadors of theDOC Valpolicella Classico Superiore.
Brigaldara Valpolicella Superiore Case Veciecomes from a vineyard located inValpantena, in the heart of theDOC Valpolicella. This is an amphitheatre-shaped vineyard with climatic characteristics that give the grapes a particular polyphenolic profile. Made from theCorvinone, Corvina and Rondinella varieties, Cesariuses respectful agriculture so as not to affect the natural balance of the terroir. Once the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested by hand in 200 kg boxes and immediately taken to the winery. There, the grapes are destemmed and pressed and the resulting must is always fermented in contact with the grape skins and at a controlled temperature of 22°-24°. The wine is then aged for 8-12 months in foudres.
The result is an idiosyncratic wine. Of noble origin,Brigaldara Valpolicella Superiore Case Veciespeaks of a delicate terroir and a fresh and unique climate. A wonder of nature thatCesarihas been able to showcase better than anyone.
